Tom began working for his brother, Richard F. Donahue Commercial
Photographers, while still in Memorial High School (class of 1948). He
enlisted in the Air Force and was a photographer at a base in Iceland until
some time between 1952 and 1954. He received a Letter of Commendation from
the base commanding officer for the effort he put into taking photographs.
After being honorably discharged, Tom resumed working with his brother
Richard. Although Tom, like Richard, did whatever needed to be done -
photographing, processing film, making prints, constructing sets, etc., he
also implemented new technologies: color separation (1950s), color printing
(1960s), presentation slides (1970s), color scanning (1981), and graphic
design (1990s).
The aerial photograph shown, ALCOA, was taken by Tom with a 4x5 camera in
November, 1969.
At some point, probably in the late 1950's, he became a partner with Richard
and the company name was changed from Richard F. Donahue Commercial
Photographers, to Donahue Studios, Inc. More photographs by Tom and Richard
Donahue can be seen at www.DonahueStudiosPhotographs.com |
